Every outfitter says their guides know the water. At George Lake, the person who knows it best also owns the place — and built it.
Twenty Years Before the Camp Existed
Rob Spencer didn’t start with a business plan. He started with more than twenty years of personal hunting and fishing trips into this part of northern Saskatchewan, long before George Lake Outfitting ever opened its doors in 2016. By the time he founded the camp, he wasn’t guessing at where the bears moved or how the lake fished through a season — he’d already spent two decades finding out.
Building Camp by Snowmobile
There’s no road to George Lake. There never has been. So when it came time to actually build the camp, Rob hauled materials in himself — in winter, by snowmobile, across frozen lake and bush, trip after trip, until there was a lodge and cabins where there used to be only shoreline.
“You don’t build a camp like this by hiring it out,” Rob says. “You build it because you already know this place better than anyone else is going to, and you want it to actually work the way a real hunting and fishing camp should.”
What That Means for You
A lot of outfitters are run by people who manage the business from somewhere else. Rob built George Lake with his own hands, on land he’d already spent two decades learning. That’s the difference between a camp run by a company and a camp run by someone who actually has something on the line every season — 3.5 million acres of licensed bear territory, and a lake he’s personally managed for trophy fish since 2003.
