New for 2027 — George Lake Outfitting Adds a Fall Black Bear Season
Since 2016, George Lake Outfitting has run one bear season: spring, over bait, the way most Saskatchewan bear camps do it. Starting in 2027, we’re adding a second option — a fall black bear hunt.
Why We’re Adding a Fall Hunt
Saskatchewan runs two bear seasons for a reason. Spring bears are shaking off hibernation and moving to feed; fall bears are doing the opposite — packing on weight ahead of winter, which tends to mean longer daylight movement and more consistent activity at bait. Hides also tend to be at their best in fall, before bears start rubbing in late winter, which matters if you’re planning a mount.
It also opens up the calendar. If spring dates don’t work with your schedule, or you’d rather hunt bear against fall color instead of spring green-up, you now have a second window at the same camp — with the same 40–50% record-book harvest rate and the same 3.5 million acres of licensed territory we’ve built our reputation on.
What Changes Between Spring and Fall at George Lake
The core of the hunt stays the same — ladder stands and ground blinds over bait, archery or rifle, guides who know this territory. What shifts is the woods around you: fall bait strategy has to account for natural food sources competing with your stand, and you’ll be hunting shorter days and cooler temperatures instead of the long light of a Saskatchewan spring evening. Color phase bears — chocolate, cinnamon, and blonde — are just as present in fall as they are in spring.
Fall also means you can pair a bear hunt with fall fishing on George Lake. Pike and lake trout are still very much on the bite in September, so a fall bear-and-fish combo trip is on the table for 2027 as well.

This is a new addition, and we’re starting with a limited number of fall hunter spots for 2027 while we settle the schedule. Licensing and tags for whichever season you choose are handled by our team as part of your package, same as always.
